I have decided to take a series of urban photographs as a mini project and plan to concentrate mainly on buildings. The intention is to force myself to do something different, just using the wide angle zoom (Canon EF 24-70) will be a change in itself, I am by inclination a 'stand back and zoom in' type of photographer preferring a longer lens wherever possible.
For post processing I intend to experiment with HDR photo techniques and try to find a look that I am happy with.
I am not sure that 'urban grunge' is an appropriate definition for photographs taken on the back streets of Hinckley, but I like the sound of it. My town like so many more around the world is suffering from the effects of recession. There are several empty shops and buildings close to the centre of town, a good few abandoned developments, and some land partially cleared and left to go wild.
I don't think that Hinckley is particularly bad or down at heel in this regard, it is probably a fairly typical small British town struggling through the current financial downturn. Hopefully in a year or two I will be able to take pictures of new projects and developments and see no empty shops in the centre of town.
