![]() swan vista | The swan collection Ah swans, they are such camera magnets and alas the cause of much photographic disappointment. So many times I have been out walking with a camera on a sunny day, seen a swan, taken the picture, only to find out later that it was hopelessly exposed and had to be consigned to the trash. They know they are pretty to look at, read photograph, and are quite vain about it too. The other day I was watching a heron through the long lens, waiting, in vain, for it to get hungry and catch a fish. Two swans behind me saw what was going on and were quite piqued. They came right over to where I was sitting as if standing beside me they could encourage a portrait session. Eventually one swan got so exasperated that it gave the tripod leg a good whack with its wing before stalking off.
